BALI DOUBLES is a new series of prints by Gerda van Leeuwen, artist in residence at the Bali Purnati Center for the Arts

in April-May 2005 and May 2006.

BALI DOUBLES
the prints were created on rice paper were all completed in late 2006.

I created the Doubles as a sequence to the banner series I did last year in Purnati.
Each image consists of two square images forming the "banner" form although much smaller in format.
As I put the 2 images together I tried to create contrast reflecting the complementary aspects of my experience of Bali:
the incredible attention to detail within the seemingly overall simplicity of the daily live, the bright daylight in contrast with the fast falling of the light at the end of the day, into long dark nights.
