About the Program E

Our Artist-in-Residency Program

The Purnati Artist-in-Residence Program has been a part of the foundation since its inception.  Individual artists of all disciplines are invited to submit proposals for projects. These are completed during an extended stay on our compound for a minimum per diem fee for full room and board.

Purnati can assist in supporting such programs or it can be a self-facilitated, independent retreat.  We ask that such project stimulate exchange of ideas and to inspire collaborative understanding.  A free public performance or exhibition is usually organized at the end of the workshop for the community.

EVAN SILVER

Discipline: Writer | Director | Composer
In Residence: May 1 – May 20, 2021

It has been a great joy to return to Purnati for a second artist residency, in large part because the space has been instrumental to my creative and spiritual development over the years. During my stay in 2016-17, I wrote and directed a bilingual dance-drama based on a Javanese folk tale in collaboration with dancers and musicians from across the archipelago, with performances at Purnati and the Agung Rai Museum of Art.

ELLEN C. CALDWELL
California - USA

Discipline: Writer, Educator, and Art Historian
In Residence: December 1 - December 30, 2016

I came to Yayasan Bali Purnati with the goal of meeting and interviewing artists all over Bali so that I could return home to California to write about them. I wanted to do this to expose more Americans and more of my art history students to contemporary artists practicing in Bali, and to help grow a wider audience for each artist. I am an art lover more than an art critic, so I really enjoyed getting to immerse myself in the arts here.
